About Us
Romanian Resource Network (RRN) has a vision to transform the lives of the most marginalised and needy people in Romania and Moldova through the prevention and relief of poverty. The goal of this charity is to partner with our supporters and other organisations to work for the good of those in need in these countries.

Following the collapse of the Communist regime in 1989, Romania was in a dire state and the poverty faced by many Romanians led them to abandon their children to State agencies which extended their limited support up to the age of 18. Leaving these institutions with no money or employable skills, the young people had little opportunity to find housing and employment. Without family, government, or charity support young people were driven to begging, steeling or prostituting themselves in order to survive. The Trustees of RRN worked directly with young women coming out of State institutions or from the streets to help them integrate into society. RRN has grown out of the work that the Trustees have been involved in Romania over the past 25 years- working to alleviate exploitation, violence, sexual abuse, suffering, illness and deprivation. RRN has been set up to continue to meet the evolving needs in a new collaborative way.

More recently, the energy crisis and the refugee crisis caused by the war in Ukraine have hurt both Romania and Moldova, countries which share their borders with Ukraine. According to the World Bank, in August 2022 inflation in Romania, driven by rising food and energy prices, accelerated to 15.3 percent whilst in Moldova (which is considered one of the poorest countries in Europe) inflation soared to 34.3 percent. Rising food and energy prices are affecting poor and vulnerable people more severely. In these harsh conditions many small charities are struggling to survive. Unless there is a sustained and effective support for these charities there will be a significant adverse effect on the help which they would be able to give.

The vision for RRN arose because of the vital need for effective support and clear information on charitable organisations working in Romania and Moldova. For volunteers and donors, it is hard and time consuming to find charities operating in Romania and Moldova which are struggling to continue their valuable work. Working in collaboration with various Romanian speaking organisations and agencies, RRN provides resources to individuals and organisations interested to make a positive difference to vulnerable people in Romania and Moldova. The severe economic difficulties of recent times make RRN’s work even more urgent and vital.
